The Low Hill Festivals - '94 '95 '96

Cathy Pemberton Rides The Bull

In summer 94 Zip Theatre was commissioned by the Low Hill & Park Village Community Forum (part of the City Challenge initiative) to co-ordinate The Low Hill & Park Village Community Festival, a major new venture which was repeated in ’95 and again in summer ’96.

Funded by Wolverhampton City Challenge, ESF, Programme Development Fund, Central TV, West Midlands Arts and other sponsors, the Low Hill Festivals promoted a positive image of an inner city community of high unemployment.

As well as a wide range of arts events organised by and for local people, the week-long celebrations included a community play and Festival Procession.

Zip Theatre co-ordinated the Festivals produced the community plays and organised all events.

In '91, working with young Wolverhampton people, Zip Theatre produced Wolves - The Musical, a massive celebration of the life and times of our town and its football team.

Two hundred youngsters were involved in this unique production in the Grand Theatre which was presented with a BSIS award by the Minister for the Arts.
